Privacy Policy

This policy covers two things: the website at extensionstart.com, and the ExtensionStart demo browser extension. Both collect very little, so this page is short. (If you're looking for the privacy policy template that ships inside the kit for your own extension, that's part of the product, not this page.)

Who is responsible

The website and the demo extension are operated by West Wanted LLC, 522 W Riverside Ave Ste N, Spokane, WA 99201, US, the data controller for everything described on this page. Contact: support@extensionstart.com.

The website

What the site collects

• Hosting logs. Like nearly every website, our hosting provider records standard server logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) to serve the site and protect it from abuse. These logs are kept only as long as the provider's standard retention.
• Checkout data via Stripe. When you buy ExtensionStart, checkout happens on Stripe's hosted pages. Stripe processes your payment details; we never see your card number. We receive your name, email address, and purchase record so we can grant repository access, send the GitHub invite, and handle refunds. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to their processing.
• GitHub username, for delivery. The product is delivered as an invite to a private GitHub repository, so we process the GitHub username you give us (and GitHub processes your account data under its own privacy statement) to send and manage that invite.
• Email you send us. If you email support@extensionstart.com, we keep the correspondence so we can help you.

What the site doesn't collect

• No analytics or tracking scripts run on this site today.
• No advertising pixels or ad tracking of any kind, no social widgets, no third-party embeds.
• No cookies. Your theme preference (light/dark) is stored in your browser's localStorage and never leaves your device.

How and why we use it

Purchase information is used to deliver the product (GitHub access, purchase-related email, refunds); legally speaking, to perform our contract with you. Logs and abuse protection rest on our legitimate interest in running a secure site; keeping tax and accounting records is a legal obligation. We do not sell personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to train anything.

The demo extension

The ExtensionStart demo extension exists to show what the kit does. It runs the kit's unmodified defaults, so its privacy footprint is exactly the kit's, described below. This section is the privacy policy for the demo extension's Chrome Web Store listing.

What the demo extension collects

• Account profile. If you sign in, we receive your email address, name, and avatar from your Google account (or the email you register with) through Firebase Authentication, together with a random account identifier. If you use the demo without signing in, an anonymous account with no personal information is created instead.
• Billing status. If you try the demo's (test-mode) purchase flow, payment runs entirely on Stripe-hosted pages; the extension never sees payment details. We store your plan and subscription status, and Stripe's customer reference, so the extension knows what you have access to.
• Feature-usage counts. The demo counts how many times you use its features (numbers only, tied to your account) to power its free-tier limits. No page URLs and no page content are ever included.
• Crash reports (opt-in only). If you enable "Share crash reports" in the demo's settings, it sends error messages and stack traces from its own code, keyed by a random install identifier; never your account, never browsing data. This is off unless you turn it on.

What the demo extension never collects

• No browsing history: it never records which pages you visit.
• No page content: nothing you read or type on websites is transmitted.
• No keystrokes, no location, no analytics or advertising trackers.

Data is stored in our Google Firebase project (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) and, for test purchases, with Stripe, all service providers processing it on our behalf. We don't sell it or share it with anyone else. Account data is kept while your account exists; email support@extensionstart.com to have it deleted.

Where the data lives, and for how long

We are a US company and our service providers (Stripe, GitHub, Google/Firebase) process data primarily in the United States; where data comes from the EU/UK, those providers rely on standard safeguards such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. We keep personal data only as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected: support email until the matter is closed and a reasonable period after, demo-extension account data while the account exists, and purchase records for as long as tax and accounting law requires (typically several years; that part isn't optional for us).

Your rights

For both the site and the demo extension, you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing support@extensionstart.com; we don't make you fill in forms for this. Note that we may need to retain purchase records where the law requires it. If you're in the EU/UK, these are your GDPR rights (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection), and you also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority, though we'd appreciate the chance to fix things first.

Children

The site and the demo extension are developer tools, not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal data, email us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If the site or the demo extension ever starts collecting more, this policy will be updated first and the "last updated" date will change. For anything material, we'll say what changed rather than silently editing.
